Vellum is transparent and I have found this to be an excellent opportunity to experiment with layers. Starting this painting on the backside, I used thinned black watercolor to layout the figure later switching to Ink. Flipping the painting over, I added the warm colors in Acrylic paint to address the fleshtones and environment. Turning the painting over several more times to add layers to both the front and back of the vellum helped to unite both sides.
